External monitor shows “no signal”
Sequence below covers cable, input, and Windows display detection.
- Confirm the monitor is on and showing its own brand logo or input-source menu briefly — rules out monitor being dead.
- Press the monitor’s Input/Source button — pick the input matching your cable (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, DisplayPort, USB-C, etc.).
- Reseat the cable at both ends. Try a different cable if possible.
- On the laptop, press Win+P → Extend (this nudges Windows to redetect).
- Win+I → System → Display → Multiple displays → Detect.
- Still nothing? Test the cable on another monitor / the monitor with another machine.
