Headphones connected but no sound

Wrong default output device, app-level routing, or Bluetooth profile.

  1. Click the speaker icon (system tray). At the top, make sure the playback device is your headphones, not the laptop speakers.
  2. Slide the system volume up, and your headphones’ own volume control if they have one.
  3. If using Bluetooth and the audio sounds tinny/awful, the headset is in “Hands-Free” (call) mode. In Sound settings, pick the “Stereo” profile.
  4. Some apps (Teams, Zoom) have their own output selection. Inside the app, go to audio settings and pick the headphones.
  5. Last resort: unplug, replug. For Bluetooth: forget the headphones, re-pair.

Still stuck after those?
