Azure & Security — your questions, answered.

The common questions clients ask before, during, and after deployment. No marketing fluff; the answers we'd give on a scoping call.

Azure consumption, Entra ID, Defender for Endpoint, Defender XDR, Microsoft Purview — provisioned through the whedo.it Cloud Partner agreement, configured against the Essential Eight, operated as a single security plane. Most of the security stack you need is already inside your Microsoft 365 Business Premium licence; the work is in the configuration. The questions below cover what's licensed, what's configured, and where Azure consumption fits in. Anything that needs scoping against your specific environment is a short email away.

What's actually in our M365 Business Premium?
Defender for Business (EDR), Intune (device management), Conditional Access (identity policy), Azure Information Protection (sensitivity labels), Entra ID P1 with risk-based MFA, and the full Office + Exchange + SharePoint + Teams. Most clients use 30% of what they're already paying for.
Do we need Defender XDR if we have Defender for Business?
Defender for Business covers endpoint EDR. Defender XDR correlates signals across endpoints, email, identity and cloud apps — so an attacker pivoting between Outlook, Teams and a workstation lights up as one incident, not three. Worth it for environments past 25 seats.
How does Conditional Access affect users day-to-day?
Configured well, almost invisibly. Compliant device on trusted location signs in normally. Unfamiliar location or device prompts for MFA or blocks. The friction lands on the attacker, not the user.
What is Purview for, and do we need it?
Sensitivity labels, data classification, DLP, and AI governance. You need it before Copilot — without Purview labels and access scoping, Copilot reads everything the user can read, which is usually more than the user realises.
Can we be Essential Eight compliant on this stack?
Yes. ML1 is achievable inside M365 Business Premium with proper configuration. ML2 requires tighter patching cadence, AppLocker or ASR rules, and admin-access discipline. ML3 is a project — scoped against your specific environment.
How is Azure consumption billed?
Metered through your subscription, at Microsoft retail. The whedo.it cost-management review runs monthly — reservations applied, anomalies caught, recommendations actioned. Most clients see Azure spend drop 10-25% in the first quarter after takeover.
