Microsoft has extended the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates programme for personal devices by a year; its Australian page now says the programme ends on 12 October 2027. Enrolment is through Settings › Update & Security › Windows Update on Windows 10 version 22H2, and there are three ways to qualify: syncing your PC settings with Windows Backup, redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or a one-time AU$44.95 purchase.
The fine print matters for businesses. Devices joined to Active Directory or Entra ID, or managed through MDM, aren’t eligible for the consumer programme. Business devices need commercial ESU, priced at US$61 per device for the first year and doubling each year, for a maximum of three years.
So the extension helps the home PC in the study, not the one on the front desk. If Windows 10 is still in your business, the choice hasn’t changed: pay for commercial ESU as a short bridge, or replace. Because the price doubles every year, ESU works as a bridge, not a plan.
